Hey my Frapp Friends!! As most of you know, my husband Mark was diagnosed with Cancer (Hodgkin Lymphoma) at the beginning of the year. It’s been a super scary, stressful, and unexpectedly tough year so far.
That all being said, when Mark successfully beat cancer in August, we knew it was time to live in the moment and take an unforgettable vacation with the friends that have been there for us the most throughout this rough year.
As we thought of where we wanted to go, the first place we thought of was the Baha Mar. We went and stayed at the Grand Hyatt (west tower I believe- the blue rooms…East tower has red decor rooms) there last year for their pre-grand opening and it was simply beautiful and so relaxing. The Bahamas are the perfect place to escape to for a quick flight from Florida and some rest and relaxation by crystal blue sea shores, sun shine and good times.
The Baha Mar is made up of three Resorts. The Rosewood, The Grand Hyatt, and the SLS. This time we stayed at the SLS. The best way to describe the atmosphere is an excluded place of luxury where design meets Key West, Retro Miami, and Disney’s boardwalk. Everything is colorful, bright and beautiful. They’ve got a swim up bar in one pool, a cliff to jump off complete with grotto in another pool, a colorfully chill swimming pool at the SLS, and the ultimate chic party pool at the Privilege Pool.
Although I do believe the ocean view rooms from the Hyatt hotel are better than the SLS views (purely because of its height and being in the center of the properties), I can NOT say enough AMAZING things about the experience and staff at the SLS. We worked with Jason to reserve our Privilege Pool party Pergola, had the pleasure of meeting Kimberly at the check in who upgraded us upon our stay for our unique celebration, and Toynell and Lamont at the concierge were graciously wonderful. They sent us and the other couples we brought to stay champagne, wine, and macaroons. They were so kind to do so.
Let’s talk food. By far our best experience and uniquely pleasant meal was at Cleo at the SLS. It is Mediterranean style cuisine with a unique modern flare. The servers also brought us complimentary strawberries and champagne there to kick off celebrating Mark beating cancer and the food was exquisite! I’d also highly recommend Katsuya for some out of this world sushi. It was so good and I’m not a big sushi person either. Definitely order the yellowtail Himachi with the ponzu glaze and jalapeno on top and the cooked crab role. Soooo yummy! Whatever you do, skip 3 Tides located below the Hyatt side. The service was pretty awful and the fish for all 8 of us was way overcooked. They didn’t seem to want to make it right either and took so long to bring out the next bottle of wine that we ended up cancelling it as we were ready to bolt out of there.
Ok y’all they have food trucks on the beach too and they are so tasty! The Pink taco food truck is good tex mex, the Poke food shack is a must (where I’m sitting in the first photo of this post), the sliders food truck was also tasty, but by far my favorite was the BBQ food truck. So good! They also have a gourmet hot dog food truck called the Sandy dog but we ran out of time (and meals) to try that one! Prices on these trucks are also reasonable.
Back to the good stuff. Let’s talk parties. Bond was overcrowded, and just mediocre. Where you want to spend your money is at the Privilege Pool party. It goes by a different food and beverage minimum (which due to pricing you’ll have no problem meeting), depending on what you want to reserve (two loungers, day bed, day bed with loungers, corner pergola or cabana). We had 6 people and the corner pergola was perfect for just that. The music was great, service was top notch, and honestly we had the most fun we’ve had in a while. SPOILER ALERT. At one point they bring out smoke machines and a ton of champagne-like water guns and just start spraying it at whoever wants a sip. Usually this sort of thing is not our thing, but we honestly had the best time. Whats better than champagne and sunshine? Just saying.
We’re so thankful we were able to make this trip happen for such a significant life accomplishment. We’re super grateful for the friends who were able to make it there to celebrate with us and can’t thank all of the people at The SLS that made everything so special for us. A trip we will never forget and we plan to make it back hopefully once a year. That’s how much we honestly love it, and by the way no this was not sponsored, although I wish it was!! Haha.
